Most of my suggestions have already been posted - Tool, Modest Mouse, At the drive-in, The Arcade Fire, The Shins, Snow Patrol.
A few other suggestions are - Nada Surf, Type O Negative, System Of A Down, Yo La Tengo, Dandy Warhols. I'm into a bit of interesting electronica at the mo' as well by Aphex Twin, Boards Of Canada and Four Tet.

Haha, yeah there's more questions than answers with my theory. I dunno, it blows my mind trying to comprehend things like the universe and the possibility of life elsewhere.
One thing that has always puzzled me with regard to people who say they have been abducted by aliens is that they describe the same physical features and procedures of the aliens. Is there some kind of psychological answer for this? Is it power of suggestion in that one person has an experience in which they say they observed a little grey man with an anal probe and then someone later has a blackout or something and thinks yeah I'm pretty sure that's what I saw as well.
i don't know what the situation is in the rest of the world, but here, jw's seem to have a very limited field of employment.
they are, in approximate order of preference:.
double glazing salesperson.. window cleaner.. door to door brush sales.. painter & decorator.. there seems to be virtually no professional occupations that are enjoyed by jw's.
I remember when I said to my parents that I wanted to go to university they said 'no you'll start believing evolution!'. I thought 'well I'll believe whatever seems the most logical to me wherever I am, whether it's at university, work or anywhere'. Knowledge is an enemy of the WTS and they would rather you were indoctrinated with their BS constantly and rely on the education of the ministry school.
I remember the people who were more afluent and worked professionally in our hall were always looked down upon; I know that in some congregations the opposite is true but in either breath it isnt right.
At my old cong. the opposite was true like you said it could be. While on the platform you were told to guard against materialism and worldly careers, those who were more affluent were better thought of. It was even thought among some that they had been blessed by jehooba and that's why they were doing well. When one of these rich brothers decided to have a pioneer month? it was always regarded as a big deal and he was making a great sacrifice cos he could have been earning big money instead. Poor ones in the cong who were continually making sacrifices of their time and money were looked down on and largely ignored by the clique at the top echelon of the cong. The stupid thing is these poor ones looked up to them cos they were so used to swallowing the BS.
did any of you people notice the earthquake in indonesia two days ago?
well it didn't cause any tsunami but it was quite heavy (8.somthin).
anyway, i realized that this earthquake came the day after easter, like the tsunami came the day after xmas.
If the WTS made something of the occurences it would be a bit hypocritical as they don't believe in Xmas & Easter. They'd have a hard time explaining the significance.
It is an interesting coincidence though. I was thinking if it has anything to do with the full moon. There was a full moon on Dec 26th and there is always one at easter. The moon can affect the sea and if the sea is agitated maybe it can exacerbate a fault line under the ocean that was waiting to rupture. Just a theory, probably wrong.

I've often wondered if the myth of God, angels etc came from other beings not of our physical universe. They are not the all omnipresent, omniscient like beings in the bible but a race of highly intelligent beings who maybe created our universe as an experiment or for their amusement (Like the Greek gods in a lot of respects). We think of our universe as vast and with immense energy but it's all relative. It's only large compared to our physicality and the limitations on how far we can travel. There is a vast amount of energy in the universe but it is finite. Maybe the whole universe is in a box on an alien life forms desk, like an ant farm. If these other beings exist on a totally different level of existence not comprised of atoms, elements etc like our physical universe and they can control all the physical properties of our universe it could be easy for them to keep popping in for a look at what we are doing. Just a thought.
in my time involved with the jws, i used to play a lot of football nearly every week with the bros. i used to find it amazing and laughable how some, including elders, would start name calling and getting aggresive, sometimes to the point of making threats.
it made me realise that football and other sports can show the true character of individuals.
has anyone here experienced things like this when playing sports with jws?
The weekend soccer matches were the only thing I enjoyed when I was a dub. We actually had a decent team as 2 of our team played for Leeds Utd juniors and another played for Halifax reserves. There was a mix of elders, ex-JW's and a couple of worldly? players who we said were studying but they weren't really. We played against other congs. and usually thrashed them on our home ground. We weren't invincible though as on away matches we didn't seem to play as well.
We had numerous local needs talks about not being too competitive or using bad language etc but everyone ignored them. It was too much fun and a good way to let off some steam. Also a good opportunity to give some of the elders a good kicking

I'm pretty good at juggling and balancing stuff. It's become an affliction now, anything I pick up I either try to balance it on my finger tip or nose or juggle it. I think I missed my calling in life (performing seal maybe :-)

I thought The Elephant Man was a great film too as it's the only one that makes me cry every time I see it. It's the part where he dresses up smart and makes tea and sandwiches for visitors who have just gone to gawp at him. Gets me every time. It wouldn't affect me so much if it wasn't a true story.
